FAMILY: Don's wife, Rachel, is a big supporter of his running. Rachel also enjoys running and puts in a few miles each week. Don's golden retriever, Buddy, used to be a companion with him on his long mountain runs, but he is now too old to endure the distance. Don said his sister, Teresa, has been the biggest inspiration to his running career. Eight years ago Teresa told Don he was overweight and needed to start running. He took her advice and one year later Don ran his first marathon with Teresa. They have also run the JFK 50-Miler together. Don has lost more than 50 pounds since taking up the sport. Don also credits his grandfather, Glenn Moats, as a big influence on his running and life in general. Glenn is 94 years old and is still very active. He still drives and works everyday. Don said, "He's taught me how to pace myself."

FUTURE GOALS: Don has many goals for both his running and his contributions to the local running community. He hopes to break 3 hours in the marathon, and he would also like to run a 100-mile race. For the past few years, Don has donated a lot of time and money to help the club sponsor the Chambersburg Half Marathon. He really hopes that the race can continue to grow every year into a bigger and bigger event. He said he would also like to sponsor an ultra-marathon at some point in the future as well. Don also has a goal of establishing some type of trail-running group in the Chambersburg area.

ANDREW'S COMMENTS: Don has an immense passion for running and it is a very high priority in his life. Despite 65-hour workweeks, he still finds the time to run at least 50 miles weekly, even if it means he has to run at 6am or at 10pm. Don recently ran on the Appalachian Trail for 5 straight hours through the night. He started at 8pm and finished at 1am. Don loves the longer distances and has completed several marathons and a few 50-mile races. When it comes to running, Don Moats puts a lot on the table.
